Rep. Cheney reluctantly urges a no vote on Senate Bill 5536, addressing drug possession

Rep. Greg Cheney, R-Battle Ground, gives a floor speech against Senate Bill 5536, addressing drug possession and fixing the state Supreme Court’s so-called Blake decision. With a heavy heart, he urged a reluctant no vote. He has spent nearly 10 years working with Washington’s drug courts and has ample experience working with individuals in the grips of addiction and those with mental health issues. Ultimately, he says an acknowledgement of a problem must be part of the solution, which this bill fails to recognize.
